The last IGU Executive Committee meeting under the 2012-2015 triennium took place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Wednesday 25 March. The Executive Committee meeting made important decisions regarding the Building for the Future project and the new Korean candidate for Vice President, Mr Jaeho Song, was presented at the meeting.

Mr Song held a presentation where he assured Korea Gas Union’s continued support and efforts for IGU. His presentation may be accessed from the IGU member’s website (members only).

The theme of the Executive Committee workshop was “Gas and renewables”. The very interesting workshop included presentations from IRENA, GTI, UNEP and Total in Abu Dhabi. The presentations are now available at the following link (members only). The technical tour to Masdar city, Abu Dhabi’s carbon-neutral city was a good supplement to the workshop.

A press conference was held with good participation form the Abu Dhabi press.

The President, Vice President and Secretary General spoke about several themes, amongst others the relevance of having an IGU meeting in the Middle East, the organisation’s strategic co-operations and the possibilities and advantages of gas in the global energy mix.

For the press release issued by ADNOC Distribution, please see here.

IGU thanks ADNOC Distribution for hosting this important meeting and agrees with IGU Regional Coordinator for the Middle East and Africa, Mr Khaled Abubakr, on that: “The last stop on the way to Paris could never have been better. Abu Dhabi was the perfect city to reflect both the global reach of the IGU and the tremendous gas developments in the Middle East region.

The mixture between ADNOC’s hospitality, the last preparations for the WGC, the Renewable Energy workshop and the visit to Masdar City, you can tell: the Gas is the most sustainable energy partner in the four corners of the globe.”
